Activities of BiGSEM are supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under two different programs. The build-up of the necessary infrastructure to carry out the European Doctorate in Economices EDE-EM is co-funded by the DAAD under the program 'International Promovieren in Deutschland (IPID)'. The supported measures include the coordination of networking activities, the marketing of the program and, in particular, the support doctoral students to meet on joint workshops, conferences or to have longer research stays at the partner universities.

In addition, under the Graduate School Scholarship Program (GSSP) BiGSEM has been selected to nominate doctoral students, who will receive three-year DAAD scholarships for their studies at BiGSEM. First scholarship holders will start in fall 2013 and a second cohort of scholarship students will be selected for 2014.
