Prof. Dr. Yves Breitmoser

Yves Breitmoser obtained a doctorate in economics from Europa-University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) in 2008.  Before coming to the University of Bielefeld, he was junior faculty in Frankfurt (Oder) and Heisenberg Fellow at Humboldt University Berlin.

Research Interests: Behavioral Economics, Game Theory, Experimental Economics

Prof. Dr. Christiane Clemens

Prof. Dr. Christiane Clemens held assistant and associate professor positions at the Universities of Hannover, Magdeburg and Hamburg and served as visiting professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich (ETH) and visiting associate professor at the University of Washington, Seattle. She was appointed to the Chair of Macroeconomics at Bielefeld University effective from April, 2010.

Research Interests: Growth Theory, Income and Wealth Distribution, Public Economics, International Economics, Political Economics, Economics of Uncertainty and Learning

Prof. Dr. Herbert Dawid (Chairman)

Prof. Dr. Herbert Dawid obtained his doctoral degree at the Vienna University of Technology. He held assistant and associate professor positions at the University of Vienna and was an associate professor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles before coming to Bielefeld in 2003. Prof. Dawid has published numerous articles in internationally renowned scientific journals, has obtained several research awards and is currently editor of the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control and on the editorial board of several other international journals.

Prof. Dr. Frank Riedel

Prof. Riedel obtained a Ph.D. at Humboldt University in 1998. The doctoral thesis won the Humboldt prize. Afterwards, he was Assistant Professor at Humboldt University until 2002, when he went to UC Berkeley as a Postdoc. He then was Feodor-Lynen-Fellow at Stanford University before becoming Professor at Bonn University. He joined the Center for  Mathematical Economics in 2007. His coauthors include Mathematicians, Biologists, and Linguists. Prof. Riedel has published articles in renowned journals in Economics, Mathematics, and Biology.

Research Interests: Mathematical Finance, General Equilibrium Theory, Evolutionary Game Theory, Applications in Biology and Linguistics

Prof. Dr. Christian Stummer

Prof. Dr. Christian Stummer received his doctoral degree from the University of Vienna where he held the position of an associate professor before joining Bielefeld University in 2010. He also served as the head of a research group at the Electronic Commerce Competence Center in Vienna and made professional experiences as a visiting professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His research has been widely published in various internationally renowned scientific journals mostly from the fields of Business Administration, Information Technology, and/or Operations Research.

Research Interests: Innovation and Technology Management, Multiobjective Portfolio Analysis, Interactive Decision Support, Agent-based Simulation of Diffusion Processes



BiGSEM student Kerstin Hötte will defend her doctoral thesis. It will take place on Wednesday April 15, 2020 at 12:00 pm.


Torben Koch successfully defended his thesis on "On some Stochastic Control Problems arising in Environmental Economics and Commodity Markets".

Victor Garcia Zapata successfully defended his thesis on "Essays on Labour Economics and International Trade".
